The Northwest Triathlon Junior Club was setup to offer local kids the opportunity to experience triathlon training and the excitement "buzz" of triathlon racing. At a time when activity levels in children are decreasing, we hope to make triathlon fun and accessible. We would recommend that children are at least 8 years old up to 16 years old have a well maintained bike in good working order, a helmet, trainers and the ability to swim 100 metres (4 lengths) unassisted. The session starts at 9am every Sunday from our base at Templemore sports complex and usually consists of swimming and biking or running but the training schedule will let you know whats in store for the coming week.

Our coached swim session is each Sunday Morning in the Templemore Sports Complex at 9am. The swimming training is triathlon specific which will consists of speed work, endurance swims and swim improvement drills and focus mostly on front crawl or freestyle as its also known. There is a minimum swimming requirement of being able to swim 100metres (4 lengths) unassisted. Our swim coaches are some of the best not only in Derry but the country who freely give up their Sunday morning to come and coach the local athlete of tomorrow. Each Swim session costs ₤2 and this is to cover the cost of hiring the swimming pool and is to be paid on the way into the changing rooms at sign on. Parents/Guardians you are free to go or stay & watch from the spectator gallery.

Our coached biking session takes place on a Sunday after swimming or sometimes as a session on its own. The kids are split into groups depending on age/ability. In each session we cover different elements of cycling including, balance, breaking, descending, group cycling, off-road cycling to name just a few. Parents are more than welcome to join in all we ask is that you wear a helmet and your bike is in road worthy condition. Please understand that this is for the protection of yourself, your child and the other cyclists in the group.

Our coached running session usually takes place at the running track in the complex or in one of the indoor halls after the swim session all the kids need is some trainers and to dress for the weather. In this session we will work on technique and various running drills whilst trying to keep the sessions fun.
