Buncrana Duathlon

The Club is excited to be returning to Buncrana for the BMW Nation Duathlon National Series where we will be holding a Sprint Duathlon. The Race will take place on Sunday 10th March at 10.30am. The event will also be for charity and Foyle Hospice has been selected as the nominated charity. The Foyle hospice provides an invaluable service to the northwest, which we are proud to be supporting. The course will consist of a 3.2km Run, 16.8km Cycle and finishing with a 3.24km run. Its a fast course and a fantastic race to get the season started.

Run Course


Start on the main road outside the Sports Complex, approx 600 mts up that road you will be directed onto the footpath and turn right along the coast road. You will pass the Gateway Hotel (right hand side of the road) and the Fire Station (left hand side of the road) and head to the round-a-bout (staying on the footpath). Approx 1 km out the Coast Road you will be directed into a car park (at the Derry end) and exit at the bottom of the same car park (at the Buncrana end). Follow the same route back to transition staying on the footpath. Close to transition you will be directed around the grass verge to the transition entrance where you will pick up your bike and head out on the cycle course.

The second run is the same route but close to the finish you will be directed into the finish chute to cross the finish line.

Cycle Course


After leaving the transition area head up the main road to the junction, turn right at this junction straight to the round-a-bout at the Fire Station. Straight through the round-a-bout out along the Coast Road (the R238) passing through Fahan Village to the turn point on the main Buncrana/Derry Road at 8.4 km from the transition. At the turn point head back the same road/route to the transition area.
